Montessori Curriculum

Montessori Teacher Education Program
(2.5-6 Years)

Modules will be delivered online through video presentations. 

You will be able to access your learning from anywhere and learn at your own pace. 

You will be required to participate in Synchronous Learning sessions 2-3 times a month over Zoom.

1. Montessori Philosophy

You will learn about Maria Montessori, how she developed her methodology in teaching and what her philosophy is about. At the end of this module you will have a deep understanding and appreciation of the Montessori Methodology.

2. Child Development

This module focuses on the child’s social, emotional, cognitive and biological development. This module aims to equip you with the knowledge, skills and competence related to the theory and practice of helping children’s development in the early years. Theories and practices of significant researchers will be covered.

3. Practical Life

Practical life is the corner-stone of Montessori teachings and helps prepare children for more learning in other areas. You will gain an understanding of the purpose and importance of Practical Life activities for children in their early years.

4. Sensorial

Sensorial Activities help children learn through their senses. We will guide you through the sensorial areas of visual, tactile, gustatory, olfactory, and auditory training as well as learning about early algebra and geometry through working with the materials. Through presentations, you will learn to teach children many underlying mathematical concepts.

5. Language

The Language Module will take you through creating and understanding Montessori Language materials. You will learn how to teach children to read, write and develop vocabulary in a structured, step-by-step system. You will also learn many Montessori language games and activities to help young children learn grammar (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions etc…).

6. Mathematics

You will understand how to introduce Mathematical concepts to the child using concrete materials. This module covers presentations of quantities and numbers up to 9,999, the decimal system, and other mathematical concepts. You will also learn step-by-step the Montessori method of teaching children 4-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through activities and games.

7. Cultural Sciences

This module will take you through the areas of geography and history. By learning how to present and implement Montessori materials, with their variations and extensions, you will delve deep into the understanding of Montessori’s Cosmic plan and the cultural materials.  The goal is to help build curiosity in children and lead them toward asking questions.

8. Sciences

In this module, you will learn how to present and implement materials and activities related to Zoology & Botany. In addition, you will have hands-on experiences on how to conduct varied experiments with children. Children will learn to investigate, ask questions, and develop a deep connection with the sciences.

9. Creative Arts

You will learn how to create art and craft activities. Creative Movement plays a big part in children’s development and you will also learn to prepare many creative movement activities. This will help foster a love and understanding of the Creative Arts in the prepared environment.

10. Curriculum Planning

In this module, you will learn the value and benefits of thematic learning. You will also learn how to prepare a curriculum around a specific theme and how to adapt this theme to the different areas of the Montessori curriculum. We will guide you in creating activities and materials and implementing your curriculum in the prepared environment.

11. Observation

You will learn the importance and value of observation in the Montessori setting. You will discover different methods of observing children and how to use your observations to assess children in your care.

12. Classroom Leadership

This module introduces a fundamental management and leadership theory, learning how to apply Montessori principles when managing/working in a Montessori school. You will learn about general management, conducting parent-teacher meetings, communication with families, building partnerships between school & home and problem solving with co-workers and families. You will also be guided in lesson planning, record keeping, creating portfolios, and writing reports. 

13. Parent Education

This module aims to help you learn how to educate parents on an understanding of Montessori and how they can continue to support their children at home. You will learn practical ideas on how to collaborate with parents to develop strong partnerships for the benefit of the children.

We will share everything you need to know to teach your children at home or students in school in a methodical way and leave NOTHING out.


To enroll: You will need to have successfully completed your high school certificate. There is no maximum age limit for this program.

You will be guided lesson by lesson and learn through:

Downloadable notes
Video resources

If you spend 30-45 minutes a day, 5x/week it should take you between 7-8 months (depending on your learning pace). 

You will however be allowed 2 years to complete your online learning.

Some of your assignments require you to create your own materials. We will guide you very clearly on how to go about it .. so don’t worry about buying Montessori materials for your assignments.

Most of our students have been able to get jobs right away. Some even get jobs while still busy learning our program. There are so many Montessori preschools but very few qualified, knowledgeable or trained teachers. There is a BIG gap in the demand and supply. 

On completion of this Montessori Teacher Education Program (2.5-6 Years), you will have the knowledge and skills a preschool teacher needs to know and will be an asset for any school you work for.

At the end of each topic, there is a quiz to assess your understanding of the lessons. Other assignments include :

  • Writing simple essays
  • Writing up your observation of children
  • Video recording of your presentations

The course has three (3) parts. 

  1. 130 hours of online learning – to be completed in 2 years. 
  2. 120 hours (3 weeks) of In-residence learning to allow you to explore your knowledge further by working with the materials. 
  3. 400 hours of teaching practicum in a Montessori-prepared environment with the children.

You will need to complete all 3 parts to get your certification. 

The 120-hour in-residence will be conducted in our center in Jakarta. The next one is from the 5th – 22nd of June 2022. 

On completion of all stages of learning, you will receive a Teaching Certificate issued by the Academy of Montessori. 

Your certificate will be accepted by most Montessori schools around the world. 

We have also applied for MACTE accreditation which, if successful, you will have an Internationally recognised certification.

References to MACTE throughout this document are solely to indicate that ACADEMY OF MONTESSORI is an applicant in good standing with the Montessori Council for Teacher Accreditation (MACTE).
